Since their foundation in 2003, Highlanders Rugby has been one of the premier rugby clubs in North Carolina.

Building upon a rich history of on-field success, Highlanders Rugby introduce and teach players the fundamentals of rugby, and its amazing traditions, offering girls, boys, and youth coed programs for families from across the Chapel Hill, Durham, Hillsborough, and Pittsboro areas.

Culture & History

The foundation of Highlanders Rugby is built upon rugby’s traditional core values of Fun, Teamwork, Discipline, Sportsmanship, and Respect. In establishing a set of Core Values and by providing a safe, stable environment to develop players, and citizens, Highlanders Rugby has built the foundation for members’ success in both sport and life.

FUN
Fun and the sense of belonging to a team and community are central to Highlanders Rugby’s instructional philosophy and club values. Through positive reinforcement and technical instruction methods, we hope to generate excitement for young players in a safe and healthy environment.

TEAMWORK
Highlanders Rugby welcome all new team members and we take pride in our club. Selflessness strengthens the team, both on- and off-the-field. We play together and rely on one another.

DISCIPLINE
Discipline is foundational in rugby. Players are taught to support the rules of the game and that hard work is the true path to achieving ones’ goals, both in sport and in life.

RESPECT
Respect for teammates, opponents, officials, coaches, and fans is at the foundation of Highlanders Rugby’s value system. We believe the key to success comes from treating each other as we would wish to be treated.

SPORTSMANSHIP
Every player hopes to be a winner, but regardless of outcome, being gracious in victory and in defeat is a lesson in sportsmanship that is core to Highlanders Rugby values and beliefs.
